The incidence of cancer is defined as the number of new cancers of a specific site occurring in a specified population during a year. This is usually expressed as the number of cancers per 100,000 persons a year: the crude rate. To adjust for the age distribution of the population, the crude incidence is often adjusted for the European or World standard popoluation, resulting in the European Standardized Rate (ESR) or World Standardized Rate (WSR).
Updated 02-02-2017, the rates for 2016 are based on estimations.
